Amazing Portraits Made out of Junk by Zac Freeman

American artist Zac Freeman forms unique portraits out of all kinds of small and used materials. Each of his objects comes from scraps of trash that are leftover from the things that we regularly consume. From colored buttons and plastic bottle caps to metal tabs from soda cans, Freeman puts all of the unused and unwanted objects to use in a fresh new way.

To build each portrait, Freeman glues the pieces together on a wooden canvas, compiling all of these unwanted pieces into a stunning representation of a person's face. From up close, viewers can enjoy the unique significance of the individual pieces, while from a distance, the objects all blend together into one realistic portrait.

Freeman uses actual garbage in his pieces because he says, "I feel the junk is more powerful being present. It is an actual thing to be reckoned with that existed in this time and place and carries energy in and of itself. The result is a time capsule of objects that reflects our culture." 13 more images after the break...

Brian Chan Creation

Brian Chan is an artist and craftsman with more than 10 years of experience at MIT and Mass Art. Some of the specialties he has had over the years are Japanese swords, replica props, and musical instruments. Brian also enjoys designing complex origami (he is currently working on an origami book to be published through Origamihouse Japan) and painting. He works at the MIT Hobby shop, and hopes to continue teaching fine craftsmanship and design in the tradition of his mentors, Ken Stone, Hayami Arakawa, Fred Cote, Toby Bashaw, Mark Belanger, JD Smith (Mass Art) and Jim Kelso (an independent metalworker).

ASCII-drawings to Pish-machine — 27-year-old British artist Keira Rathbone does not use a brush or pencil. Their it successfully replaces the typewriter. Unusual Art

A portrait of Anna Nicole Smith made of junk, artist Jason Mecier created the picture. He creates his portraits of celebrities using junk, pills and sweets. Jason sometimes uses items donated by the stars themselves to complete his pieces. Jason explains: "Celebrities really do send me items. Most people send me anywhere from a shoebox to a trash bag full of things to incorporate into their portraits. I have a bag of Pam Anderson's laundry, and a letter Paris Hilton wrote me from prison." more creative portraits after the break............
